Step 4

Identify the federal government contracting activity that purchases your product or service and contact the Small Business Specialist on-site.

Many government contracting functions are decentralized. Each major buying activity purchases supplies and services which support its own mission. Each buying activity is assigned a Small Business Specialist. This individual should be your contact for upcoming procurements and a source for counseling on small business matters at that particular activity.

You should also contact and work with a Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) near you who will help you win government contracts (see Step 9 for more details).

Many buying office web sites list small business specialists assigned to each subordinate buying activity. They may also list procurement forecasts and solicitation information.
